Where It All Began

Our story begins with Christian Medical College (CMC) Vellore, founded in 1900 by Dr. Ida Sophia Scudder, an American missionary driven by compassion after witnessing the tragic deaths of three women who refused treatment from male practitioners. What started as a single-bed dispensary became one of India's most prestigious medical institutions.

From the 40-bed Mary Taber Schell Memorial Hospital for women to the establishment of the Medical School for Women in 1918, CMC Vellore has been a pioneer in medical education and healthcare. The institution achieved remarkable firsts: India's first successful open-heart surgery (1961) and first kidney transplant (1971), setting the foundation for groundbreaking medical advances.

In 1965, our batch—25 girls and 35 boys—joined this dream institution. Though we were students then, our class would go on to contribute significantly to medical services worldwide.
